Heavenly good Seikoen

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

So on Sunday, my Hubby and I were just recovering from the awesome party we had on Saturday. My Hubby said to me that he wants something light and health as we were driving to nowhere for our dinner….the next thing we knew we were stepping into a Tokyo style Korean BBQ- Seikoen in Torrance.

What the hell right? Don’t ask me. It must be the “Inception” effect!!!!!

So we set down and started ordering…1 orion, 2 beef tongue, 2 kurubi, 1 intestine, 1 something something garlic, 1 vegi…(yes 1 vegi order for the light and health dinner).

I gotta say this restaurant is so old fashion that I actually felt like I was in Japan for the whole time while eating there! The smoke air, the very local obasan serving style, the grill set, the napkin that wear around your neck…. and the cashier machine!!!! LoL.

So the food came we started cooking… first bite of the beef tongue…..OMG am I in heaven? How come there is such a wonderful taste beef tongue and it took me so long to find it. Especially, with the sauce they gave me to dip with the beef tongue made the taste even more wonderful!!!

The karubi was very soft not dry or hard to eat. And man, the intestine…. gotta say it is way way way better than the Star BBQ.

Then the vegi and garlic was also very good. (Yes, I am more into the meat than vegi… But vegi were good really.)

If you ever go there to eat, wear something that you are about to wash. It is super smoky in there! And try to there early otherwise you will have to wait a long long time….

Here are some photos of the food and place:

Rice hamburger

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

MOS burger, have you heard of it? Probably rare in USA. In fact, I have never seen one after I came to the state.
Well, MOS burger is a fast food restaurant in Japan. It is a hamburger made from rice! Yap, you heard me right! The bun is not bread, it is RICE!!! I gotta tell ya, I do miss that taste… it was my dinner three times a week back in Taiwan (Taiwanese love JP stuff…ya..no don’t be surprised… yes, we have MOS burger too! LOL).

I have already gave up to search for rice burger after I moved to Morehead, Kentucky where most places closed around 6pm. (haha….) It was a nice town but not for me, a city girl, to live there. Even after I moved to LA, it never occurred to me to search for rice burger till one day~ this cafe’s front door decoration caught my attention.

The cafe had a shaved ice sign in Kanji. I was curious… why a cafe has that…? (well, I assume it was an American style cafe) So I told myself to go check it out with my hubby. Couple days later, we were there standing outside checking out their menu after our first visit to Smart & Final (nice little costco!).

As soon as we saw their menu, we were like “oooo~~naruhodo, it is a JP cafe ne! :) KUL!”. Then RICE BURGER was there poping out saying “Hi”….Man, gotta tell ya, I thought I won a prize or something. It got me so excited! So we went in and order the rice burger that I haven’t ate for 8 years!

We got it to-go so we can slowly examine the taste…and I was SATISFIED! That little burn rice bun with teriyaki beef, huge tomato slice, and lettuces. Yammy! We finish it within no time!

And couple days later, I was there again with my friend having the rice burger. I tried the chicken one and my friend tried the spam and egg one. Both were very delicious too! Oh, and the coffee latte…rich! very different from those chain coffee store.

Later I read their business card, I found out it is a family owned cafe. Everyone in the family work at the cafe! What a harmony~ Their family dream is to offer customers with good food at affordable prices that can be enjoyed in a relaxing atmosphere.
